From 3D Light to 3D Electron Microscopy

March 21 - 23, 2018 | Ghent, Belgium

From 3D Light to 3D Electron Microscopy

ZEISS in Collaboration with VIB | 4th Meeting

Life happens in 3D – and understanding biological context in the three dimensions has been a major driver in light microscopy in the past decades. In the process 3D imaging technologies such as confocal scanning microscopy have become standard in every modern biosciences lab.
Today the trend to 3D continues towards highest resolution with modern field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) based techniques enabling previously thought impossible insights to structural information. Automated FE-SEM technology has made a change to the way scientists approach 3D EM volumetric imaging by allowing for larger and thus more complex data sets. In the race to 3D understanding Correlative Microscopy is a key enabler activating the link between function and structure.
ZEISS in collaboration with the BioImaging Core Facility at the VIB Ghent are proud to host this joint workshop and scientific meeting on Correlative Microscopy and volume SEM. The meeting is centered around scientific sessions covering a broad range of correlative microscopy and SEM methods including data management and analysis. In addition participants will have the opportunity to join instrument workshops and round table discussions.

Participants are encouraged to present their own scientific work in poster or oral presentations. A scientific panel will review abstracts submitted for oral presentation.

Don’t miss this exciting platform for exchange with researchers and industry to explore the new and emerging technologies and methods for correlative microscopy and 3D SEM in the life sciences.

    Crossbeam (FIB/SEM)

    Workshop 1

Experience how to utilize a focused ion beam scanning electron microscope to acquire high quality volume dataset of biological samples. Learn how a ZEISS Crossbeam can help you target exactly the region of interest you need and how correlative microscopy can help to guide image acquisition.

    Workshop 2

With the recently developed “Focal CC” charge compensation in serial blockface applications becomes easy to use. For the first time difficult samples can be investigated at high resolution without compromise. Learn how your application can benefit from “Focal CC” and 3View.

    Sample Preparation

    Workshop 3

Learn from experts how to tackle challenges in sample preparation for correlative and volume electron microscopy workflows. Experience the demonstrations live in the lab.

    Image Processing

    Workshop 4

Which tools can help you in your task for processing your images and turn them into meaningful results. In this workshop, we will present community tools and discuss new developments from ZEISS.

    Correlative Microscopy

    Workshop 5

Correlative microscopy means the combination of information from different microscopes or data sources. We will show you different tools ZEISS developed to make the process as effortless as possible and we will demonstrate some of our latest developments.

    Light Path

    Workshop 6

Light microscopy is unrivalled when it comes to acquiring functional information. Experience the different option to use light microscopy from automation to high-resolution with Airyscan. After an introduction, you will have the choice to learn about the different techniques directly at the instruments.
